An Underwater World Unlike Anywhere Else

Tucked inside Phil Foster Park on the Intracoastal Waterway in Riviera Beach, Blue Heron Bridge, affectionately known as BHB by locals, is one of the most celebrated dive sites on the planet. Sport Diver magazine named it one of the world’s best dive sites, and divers who experience it always understand why.

What makes it truly special is the diversity of life you simply won’t find anywhere else in South Florida. Because it sits within the protected Lake Worth Lagoon, the seafloor is a rich mix of sand, silt, and artificial structure that acts as a nursery for hundreds of species. You might spot a tiny seahorse clinging to a blade of seagrass, watch a mimic octopus change color before your eyes, or come face to face with a spotted eagle ray gliding silently overhead, all in less than 20 feet of water.

Some divers have even called it “Lembeh Straits East”, a nod to the famous critter-diving capital of the world in the Philippines. That’s the kind of company Blue Heron Bridge keeps.

Perfect Conditions, Every Time

One of the biggest advantages of diving BHB is reliability. Because the site is sheltered by the Intracoastal Waterway, it stays divable even when rough Atlantic conditions would cancel a boat dive. Warm water, easy shore entry, a max depth of just 20 feet, and the potential for up to two hours of bottom time on a single tank make it a dream for new divers and seasoned pros alike.

Underwater photographers absolutely love it here. With over 100 species of nudibranchs alone, plus frogfish, batfish, dragonets, pipe fish, moray eels, and the occasional manatee, every dive feels like a new discovery. No two dives at Blue Heron Bridge are ever quite the same.

The site is tide-dependent, and timing your dive right is key to the best visibility and the calmest conditions. That’s exactly where having a local guide makes all the difference.

You Never Know What You’ll Find

That’s the magic of Blue Heron Bridge. One dive could bring you nose-to-nose with a frogfish that’s been sitting perfectly camouflaged for weeks, and the next could reveal a rare mimic octopus putting on a full color show. Here’s just a taste of who lives under the bridge.

🐴
Seahorses
Tiny, delicate, and surprisingly hard to spot, and finding one is always a highlight.
🐙
Octopus
Masters of disguise, including the sought-after mimic octopus, live right here.

Frogfish
Perfectly camouflaged and bizarre-looking, and a macro photographer’s obsession.
🦈
Nurse Sharks
Gentle bottom-dwellers that often rest in the sand right below the bridge.
🦑

Over 100 species of these wildly colorful sea slugs have been recorded here.
🐠
Tropical Fish
Angelfish, spadefish, and cardinalfish swarm the bridge columns in clouds of color.
🐢
Sea Turtles

🦭
Manatees
These gentle giants occasionally wander in, one of the most magical surprises in diving.

Everything You Need Before You Dive

Blue Heron Bridge is welcoming and accessible, but a little knowledge goes a long way toward making your dive exceptional.

🌊
Dive at High Tide
BHB is tide-dependent. The best diving happens about an hour before and after high slack tide, when visibility is greatest and currents are calm. Your guide will time everything perfectly.
📍
Easy Shore Entry
Located at Phil Foster Park, 900 Blue Heron Blvd, Riviera Beach. The entry is straightforward, just wade in from the beach and you’re exploring within minutes.
⏱️
Up to 2 Hours Bottom Time
At a max depth of just 20 feet, you can enjoy an incredibly long, relaxed dive on a single tank, with plenty of time to find all the hidden creatures.
🌤️
Dives in Almost Any Weather
The protected lagoon setting means BHB stays divable even when conditions on the open Atlantic are too rough. It’s a reliable option year-round.
🚗
Arrive Early on Weekends
This site is beloved by locals and visitors alike. Parking fills up fast on weekends. Arrive early, ideally before 8am on peak days, to secure a spot.
📷
Bring Your Camera
Blue Heron Bridge is considered a macro photographer’s paradise. Whether it’s your first dive or your hundredth, there will always be something worth photographing.
